Sparkler Drawings

The drawings below were made using regular sparklers photographed in night mode on my digital camera - long exposure with flash.
On some the flash picks out objects in the background (eg car number plates) and my hands and face. I have used a very basic computer package to modify some of the drawings - increasing contrast, using colour filters and something called 'gamma' that I don't understand but like the effect - it seems to heighten the glow.
Obviously some shapes and forms work better than others - I wrote Hello because sparklers are for kids and kids often write hello or similar with them.

Lynda,
I like Richard Box work. I remember watching a BBC TV prog about his work, especially how science was used in an artist way. On his website ( www.zen32868.zen.co.uk/r/press.htm ) the colaorating Professor Henshaw said " To have an artist make something about quite specific physics in an artistic way is inspiring to us."

Lynda, your sparkler drawings are amazing. How brilliant that it is possible to capture whole words and other complex shapes. The little umpa-lumpa forms are deeply uncanny!

Thanks

It's actually quite difficult to draw something like a person - much easier to do the circle with the zigzag or even write a word because in space, with no visible trace of where you just were, you can't tell where to draw the line!
