Light Works!
These are some examples of using light to make fleeting, ephemeral drawings - all very different.Walter De Maria's 'Lightning Field'.
Tim Noble and Sue Webster's 'Miss Understood and Mr Meanor' (destroyed in the warehouse fire in 2005), and 'Fountain' 2004.
And finally two of my own drawings - with an overhead projector and a sparkler drawing.

It's interesting, with your images, to see the difference between light that seems to have emanating rays (sparkler, fountain) and light that appears still and flat (overhead projector, silhouetted faces). I suppose this is a temporal thing, to do with how quickly the image is captured??? So it gives very different feelings about the transience of the image.

Yes, definitely.
I agree the glow from Lightning Field, Sparkler and Fountain are much more emotive. The overhead and silhouetted faces are clever but do not create the same feeling. David Bachelor describes his work (for example Candelabra 3)as being able to 'transport' the viewer - I think it's to do with being immersed or bathed in coloured light. With the overhead and silhouetted faces the light is shining away from the viewer on to a screen or backdrop whereas in the others the light is emanating from the piece itself.
This is true of Dan Flavin's work too. More pics of that and David Bachelor's work coming soon...
